Vancouver from the hip..

Shooting from the hip is a sometimes necessary skill for a street photographer to master..

Most of the shots in this blog are shot from the hip, in one sense or another..  Mostly manual focused and blindly composed while walking, or just shooting inconspiculously from the waist..

Im starting to get a lot better at ‘guessing’ and Im happy with the majority of hipshots..  I still like shooting low aperture.

I really like this.  Im glad the two guys were in frame, it makes the shot for me..  Took this one around chest level while walking

I missed the girl, but the shot is still compelling enough for me to post..  Im always glad when something or someone else catches focus, if not the intended subject..

Like this one..  Shot on the fly, I was hoping to capture the guy smiling, but instead caught the myspace girl taking her own photo..

Dedicate this one to Meredith.  Not really a hipshot, but I was hiding behind a tree..  (not to be sneaky as much as to not be in the reflection)

He was whistling at some girl..  Stereotype enforced

They destroyed my favorite place in gastown.  Gaolers Mews..

I dont really take many street photos when I know people can see me, but oh well.

I shot this woman from the other side from the hip, but missed by over a foot, so I doubled back and made sure I got her..  I dont usually look at the screen unless im shooting from the hip..

Hats interest me, for whatever reason.. The subject was the guy, but I took it because of the jaywalking woman..

This pic is just an accident..  I still like it though.
